Vorys Welcomes Experienced In-House Attorney to Cleveland Office

Vorys announced today that Beth Spain, an attorney with more than 20 years of litigation and labor and employment experience, has joined the firm as of counsel in the Cleveland office. Spain brings a unique perspective as both a seasoned litigator and former in-house counsel for leading companies in the retail, health care and manufacturing industries.

"Having had the opportunity to work with Vorys as an outside counsel partner during my time in-house, I can confidently say that the level of service you get as a Vorys client is unmatched," said Spain. "That client experience is consistent with how I practice law and how I want to help our clients.”

Spain began her career at Vorys, where she spent a decade representing clients in employment, product liability, medical malpractice and commercial litigation matters in state and federal courts. She returns to the firm after more than a decade serving in senior legal leadership roles for large, multi-location organizations, where she acted as a trusted advisor to C-suite executives and senior leadership teams.

"We enthusiastically welcome Beth back to Vorys," said Bryan Falk, managing partner of the Vorys Cleveland office. "Her dedication to her work and her extensive in-house experience make her a perfect addition to the firm and to the Cleveland office.  She will offer value to both our clients and our attorneys.”

As in-house counsel, Spain served as the primary legal advisor on employment and workforce issues, counseling leadership on wage and hour compliance, leave of absence and disability accommodation, labor relations, and workplace safety. She developed and implemented compliance training programs, advised on major enterprise transformation projects including business reorganizations and implementation of enterprise-wide human capital management systems, and negotiated collective bargaining agreements. Spain also oversaw ethics and compliance hotline operations, coordinating investigations and advising on high-risk matters.

In addition, Spain managed complex litigation portfolios spanning class action, single-plaintiff employment, consumer, commercial, general liability, privacy, governance, and securities matters. She played an integral role in achieving the resolution of a more than 69,000-member class action alleging discrimination in pay and promotions.

Spain is a member of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association and the Association of Corporate Counsel. She has served on the board of Akron Children's Hospital Foundation and as a board member and volunteer guardian ad litem for CASA of Franklin County.

Spain earned her J.D. from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and her B.S., cum laude, from Miami University.
