17th Appalachia Energy Law Conference
Ilya Batikov, a partner in the Vorys Columbus office and a member of the firm's energy, utilities, oil and gas practice, participated in a session at the Appalachia Energy Law Conference on September 10 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The title of the session was "Appalachian Title Trends: What’s Hot in Ohio, West Virginia & Pennsylvania." It provided an overview of trending issues in Appalachian energy title law, including recent interpretations of Ohio’s Dormant Mineral and Marketable Title Acts, evolving guidance on the construction of historic deed reservations, and subsurface trespass liability arising from horizontal drilling. The discussion also highlighted the current status of title washing in Pennsylvania and recent challenges to tax-delinquent mineral titles in West Virginia.
